A vast array of new features and content will be introduced upon final launch.

- More questions: new questions added to each module.
- Question linkage: questions are now linked back to relevant objectives.

- Updated outline/format: matches latest changes to exam structure from Salesforce.
Planned (upon site launch):
- New exams (multiple full-length exams with questions cross-linked to objectives).
- Lightning-specific administration.
Content through security is complete today. The rest will be available when the final guide launches.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What are the limitations / known issues with this site?” tab_id=”1502403851475-cc722c46-7f2f”][vc_column_text]Only the free content (through Security) has been completed. The rest will follow with the official release.
This site has not been optimized for performance. The module pages take the longest to load as there is the most information. This will be optimized in a future release.
This beta version of CoD has not been fully cross-platform tested. We recommend using Google Chrome on a desktop (PC/Mac) as that experience is most fully tested. You may notice problems on mobile devices.

Exam Questions
[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion c_icon=”triangle” active_section=”0″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Is using only CertifiedOnDemand.com enough to pass the certification exam?” tab_id=”1502379042592-afff97be-fbf6″][vc_column_text]Yes.
To be completely honest, you can pass the exam on your own without any paid resources. But it will take you significantly longer to prepare, your chances of passing will be much lower, and you will likely find that you have knowledge gaps afterward.
The goal of CoD is to give you a very precise framework for learning and exam prep that will make good use of your time and ensure that you’ve retained the relevant materials.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How long does it take to get certified?” tab_id=”1502379042887-87ed3906-e773″][vc_column_text]It varies. For most people, 80-160 hours is a reasonable estimate.
Actual reported figures from CertifiedOnDemand.com range from 40-300 hours (passing on the first attempt).
There are many variables that can impact this: prior experience (Salesforce and/or other IT experience), how thoroughly you learn the material, and so on.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What release of Salesforce will my exam cover?” tab_id=”1502379043540-7553958d-86e6″][vc_column_text]There is generally a delay between when Salesforce releases a new version and when the certification exam is updated to reflect that release. See below to understand what release of Salesforce you are using today. When you register for the exam at Webassessor, you will see what release the exam covers by the code of exam. In this example, “SU15” refers to the Summer 15 release.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What version and release of Salesforce am I using?” tab_id=”1502379043867-01a2f150-3feb”][vc_column_text]Once you are logged into Salesforce, you can check the following:
The version (Professional, Enterprise, etc.) of Salesforce is listed on the company information page within setup.
The release (Winter 17, Spring 17, etc.) of Salesforce can be found by selecting a standard application (e.g. Sales) from Salesforce Classic – the version can then be seen by looking at the application image in the top left.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][vc_column_text]

Hello John,
After reading through some great testimonies about this great site of your. I must say, a job well done.
I am new to Salesforce Admin 201 world , coming from telecom industry, i have been doing some self study for the past 1month though, came across your site.
Please has your materials been updated to the new salesforce Winter ‘17 study guide?? And also is everything covered in your material or still have to source for more info somewhere else??
Thank you,
Everything is in the materials- winter 17 update will be complete shortly (most of it is already done)
Hi, I’m planning to ask a cousin who lives abroad to pay with his credit card. After purchase, i’ll be using it immediately from India. And of course, according to the policy, i’ll be the only one to use it after the purchase. Will, there be an issue ? I’m asking, since i don’t want my account to be shut down based on the site being concurrently operated in two countries, for the first few minutes.
Hi there- this is not a problem so long as a) there are not multiple concurrent logins (e.g. India and US logged in at the same time) and b) the credit card transaction is not disputed (e.g. make sure your cousin doesn’t forget they purchased 🙂
Hi I want to create lead by web to lead.. abd I am able to do that but I want keep value of slandered field rating (pick list) with value warm..
how to do that..plz can help me????
You can create a hidden field in the HTML that sets the value to Warm, cold, etc. Or you can create a workflow rule that sets the value based on the criteria of a web-to-lead being the lead source.
Hi John,
I am planning to take the exam mid March 2017. I checked and the exam code is WI17.
1. Will the site progress to Winter 17 soon?
2. I already started studying, will I have to go back and review? Do I wait?
What’s your advice?
Thanks
Nitzan
Start studying – the winter 17 updates are almost all around the lightning UI. The site will be updated shortly, the mean time you can review release notes and release training.
Thanks
Hi I have an exam next week on 17th Nov and my Exam says its WI17 so how not to miss the new topics which probably are not updated at your site or are they? what is the best way to be secure in the exam?
http://docs.releasenotes.salesforce.com/en-us/winter17/release-notes/salesforce_release_notes.htm
They will get updated shortly- the updates for Winter 17 are mostly around Lightning which is not really focused on in the exam. Review the release training/notes, you’ll be set.
Does most of the material here still hold true following the Winter 2017 release, or will significant updates need to be made to the COD material? Also, any idea of timeline for updates? 🙂 Thanks for the great resource!
See above 🙂
How long do you give access to the Study Guide for paid users?
Access does not expire
Hi John,
is it possible to get a receipt of some sort? Might be able to get a tax refund here in germany. 😉
Regards
Yep – it should have emailed you. Please use the contact page if you didn’t get the receipt
Hi, I’ve recently started using this site so I am still getting to know some of the features. Is there a way to have access to salesforce here or do you have to register apart?
I believe what you are asking about is to get your own free salesforce developer edition license. You may sign up for one at https://developer.salesforce.com/en/. Hope this helps
John,
The salesforce certificate site is little bit confusing..I am looking for ADM-201 exam,,,but i can’t find this ADM-201 code on salesforce site but I could see Salesforce Certified Administrator (SU16)..is it same to ADM-201 exam?
ADM201 is actually the COURSE that is designed to prepare you for the Certified Admin exam- yes that is the correct exam
Hi John,
Could you please tell me what the free access to the site offers versus what is there in a paid ($40) subscription?
Thanks,
S Vengat
There are many sections of the website that you cannot access without a subscription
Thanks, I had already gone ahead and gotten the paid version
I just passed my ADM 201 thanks to your site. Thank you very much!
Awesome! Congrats.
Nice, congrats Shannon!
Hi John,
I failed my first salesforce admin exam (SP16) and am registering for another test. However, the version has changed to summer. So I wanna ask are you going to update it to summer 16?
When did you take your exam? I took mine on May 18th, failed, took again on June 28th and passed.
Whenever possible- don’t have an exact date. Read the release notes, and take the release training and you should be OK. Admin materials don’t change drastically.
John:
I passed the exam on June 28th. Which release was that? The certification site is confusing (for me) and I received this message on June 28th:
Examination: Salesforce Certified Administrator (SP16)
Result: PASS
Date Completed: 06/28/2016
So when do I need to take the annual maintenance exam? Just received a message from them on July 12th about Summer 16 release and really don’t believe that I need to do anything right now because I just passed the exam.
Please clarify.
Thanks
Ever major release (3x per year) you need to take the release exam. Once per year you need to pay $100 when you take the releae exam. For you, this would be spring 17 when you have to pay. Don’t wait until the to take the maintenance exams.
Thanks.
I heard of people filing 2 times the the current maintenance exam. Since I have until March/2017 to take it, I will probably play with the new features, follow Trailhead and any other resource available. This is what I found:
http://certification.force.com/pkb/articles/Public_KB/Summer-16-Administrator-Release-Exam
Hi, John.
I’m from China and I want to consullt about my CoD account.
I might have limited access to this website for the Great Fire Wall of China sometimes.
So I use VPN sometimes.
Would that be safe for my account?
Cause it will lead to many different IP ranges from your side.
That wont’ be a problem so long as you’re logged in only once
Another question:
is the sales cloud section of your study guide enough study material to successfully the sales cloud certification?
No – currently there is only a guide for admin certification prep. It will help but is not all-inclusive.
John – I’m using the free trial at the moment. May I ask if the #of questions at the end of each FREE topic would remain the same for the purchased version. Also, I understand the final practice test contains 30 questions. Has that # changed in recent months? Thank you!
Yes- 30 questions currently. The free sections remain the same as well- buying access will allow you to access the content on the rest of the site.
Hi John:
I just signed for. I took the Trailhead Beginners and Intermediate Admin classes in Jan/2016 and have been “playing” with since. Unfortunately, there is only so much that you can do there and with the Developer edition (Sandbox come to mind).
Since February I started an “internship” with a company that is adopting SF but does not have ANY full time SF person, so I have to learn on my own ( Ihave access to Production and several sandboxes).
Last week week I got access to the premium online training “Administration Essentials for New Admins” provided by SF and today I finished the module “Security and Data Access”, which is overwhelming to say the least.
Now, since I have the time, what do you recommend? Mix that training with yours back and forth? At which pace? Take each module and jump to the next or take my time and a break between each module?
Thanks!
Carlos
It doesn’t hurt to mix and match, but generally I would recommend taking the full training options first- then circle back to CoD to fill in gaps and knowledge check.
Cool. I will do that. This way when I try here, it will be a review/reinforcement of what I learn there or even clarification if any doubts are left.
I am still trying to understand what is the best way to use/navigate thru this site…
Is it going down/right from the top left link “Salesforce.com Certified Administrator Study Guide” ?
Section by section (e.g. getting started then overview, etc.)
John –
I passed the exam yesterday and excited to be an “awesome” certified Salesforce Administrator. Your site was a huge help to me, and had hoped to see the next step for App Builder offered as well. I am disappointed to find it is not, but will find the resources! I will also be attending the conference next week that Apptus is putting on in San Francisco; only for 1 day, but plan to get all of the seminars being offered from/about Salesforce.
Thanks for providing an eminently usable tool for learning Salesforce and the help in passing the exam. I staked a lot on the course I am in, and learning the material well, and could not have achieved it without CoD!
Best –
Jen Crook
Hey Jen,
That’s awesome- congrats! Hope to to see you there at Accelerate (I’m en route now) and will be leading CPQ training on Tuesday. Thanks for the great feedback.
Cheers,
John
Hi John,
I’m preparing for consultant certifications. Do you have material specifically related to those? If not, do you know where a good place to look is?
I’m studying for the same exam. Planning to sit it in a few days. I’ve been going through the SF Study Guide Spring ’16 (recently updated but it’s the exact same as Winter ’16) and going through each topic and writing down these three points:
– What is it
– What are the benefits/use-cases
– What are the pitfalls/considerations
I’ve found ‘googleable’ resources to be extremely comprehensive as well as DreamForce videos on Youtube. I’ve also referred back to the content on here a lot because the first of the three answers of some topics are usually in this study guide.
Good luck with your exam & thanks again John for the study guide.
Hi John..
Thanks for this wonderful site..I am learning a lot from this..
Can you please suggest the correct answer for the below 3 questions
Which of the following is the best way to make the Field Mandatory for everyone?
A. Page Layout
B. Validation Rule
C. Roles & Profiles
D. Field Level Security
—-
The org wide default is set to private. Phil smith the owner of ABC account is a US Sales Rep reporting to the US Sales Director. The users in the US sales rep role can edit ALL oppurtunities associated with the accounts they own. Tim an EMEA sales rep owns an oppurtunity associated with the ABC account.Identify the correct role access.
A. Phil can view but cannot edit Tims ABC oppurtunity
B. TIM cannot VIEW / EDIT phils account
C. Phil can EDIT and VIEW Tims ABC oppurtunity
D. Tim can VIEW and EDIT Phils account
E. Tim can VIEW but cannot EDIT phils account.

Universal Containers would like their sales reps to be able to send branded email invitations to customers for business meetings and to collaborate with customers from a branded Website to find a suitable meeting time. How can an Administrator accomplish this?
A. Create a custom email template for invitations that displays your compant logo
B. Add a company logo to meeting requests in Salesforce
C. Create an external integration with Google calendar using Sites
D. Enable Chatter to allow reps to Communicate with customers
Regards
Marshal
1 – should be field config…
2- depends on role config (not enough info)
3- probably a… Would have to double check, don’t think cloud scheduler has a logo
The answer for question #2 is C and D.
Yep spot on – read that too quickly. Got this question recently and circled back to implicit record access: http://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=faq_record_access.htm
I saw that today on the premium training. 🙂
While I agree and understand option C (Phil owns ABC account, therefore, he can see/edit any opportunity associated to ABC, including the one that belongs to Tim).
I can’t understand D: Tim is in the same level as Phil, therefore, he shouldn’t be able to see/edit Phil’s accounts, because OWD doesn’t extend rights to the same level. Tim should be able to see/edit only his accounts that are as well associated to Phil.
What Am missing? The question doesn’t provide more information like sharing rules or manual shares.
John:
Can you clarify?
Thanks
Implicit record access in the link above:
Implicit access Corresponds to the “Associated record owner or sharing” entry in the Reason column of the Sharing Detail page. The user may have access to a child record of an account (opportunity, case, or contact), which grants them Read access on that account. You cannot overwrite this access. For example, if the user has access to a case record, he or she has implicit Read access to the parent account record.
In short- ownership of the opportunity grants read access to the account
Hello,
I purchased the COD for preparing for the Admin certification (201). I passed that exam in Nov. 2015. Now my company wants me to get certified in the Platform Developer 1 and I’m struggling to prepare for it. I started using trailhead, but not able to ensure that I’m covering all the material for the certification only.
Can you recommend how I can prepare for it? budget is an issue, so wont’ be able to take the SF training courses. Also, I have read that there is overlap between the Admin and Developer? How much of COD can I use to prepare for the Platform Developer 1?
Thanks for your help in advance.
There is a fair amount of overlap between platform developer and admin- I would encourage to review the Salesforce study guides. This site will help, but is not going to cover all the bases for platform admin.
Hi John
I am preparing for SF Service Cloud exam.Does the paid guide will have info on Service Cloud certification.
Thanks
No, the guide is designed for the admin cert (although there is some overlap, therefore there is some material that discusses Sales Cloud)
I recently took the exam and struggled with the dashboard questions. Where specifically in your study guide does it focus on the dashboard and the different graph types? I recall a few questions on the test that I didn’t feel adequately prepared for.
Hi there- dashboards are covered in the analytics sections: http://beta.certifiedondemand.com/analytics/
Was there anything in particular you weren’t prepared for? I’m always happy to take suggestions to improve the content.
I believe one of the questions was asking which graph types should be used for summarizing information. So I was hoping to cover all the graph types and report/dashboard types.
I’ll add that to the list of improvements on the section if not specifically addressed. Good feedback, thanks!
Can you give me an approximate amount of hours needed to complete this entire study guide?
It can vary widely- from 40 hours to 200+ hours depending on prior experience, depth of study, etc.
Hi john,
By mistake i did unsubscribed COD..:(
How can i subscribe again////
Tejal.
Do you mean to the comments? Check the notify box at the bottom when you leave a comment.
ok got it..i m on right way..thank you.
Tejal.
I plan to take the admin exam around July this year. does that still fall into the winter 16 time or do i need more information or is this site enough for me to pass the exam
You will need to check at the time that you register for the exam. Keep in mind the version of the exam should not have a huge impact on the amount of knowledge or prep you will need.
Hi John.
First of all – congratulations – this is a brilliant study guide. Just what I need. Quick question. Looks like I’ll be taking the winter 16 release exam. Any idea what will be on the exam that is specific to that release? Lightening Experience? Any info on how that’s going in terms of adoption? My company uses SFDC and has no idea it exists!
Cheers
I would definitely read the release notes on Winter 16- this site will get updated but I have not had a chance to do so yet.
You should definitely be aware of the Lightning experience walking into the exam- good luck!
When will you be adding content for the Advanced Admin Certification?
Not anytime soon 🙁
Will this site/Guide be updated to include Winter 15 information? When does the Salesforce Certification exam update to include winter 15?
Please read comment above – this site will probably get updated towards the end of the year.
Thanks, so I’m planning on taking the exam in around 20th of December, should I wait for this guide to get updated?
I wouldn’t wait- use the guide, then read the Winter 16 release notes.
Developer.salesforce.com has been updated to Winter 16 but the exam I want to take will be in SU 15. Anyway I will be able to get back to SU15 release on developer.salesforce.com or if there is any other website I can use for preparation/exercising? I am a newbie and do not want to get confused in between different releases. Also, I want to register my exam when the date is closer. Currently, the tentative date is listed as in SU 15. Will they change to Winter 16 for the same date exam? Thanks in advance for replying.
Any way to revert to Summer 15 in the org? The short answer is no.
The exam is currently Summer 15 – I don’t believe the date when this will be updated to Winter 16 is published publicly, so unfortunately I don’t have a clear answer for you on this question.
All that said – being new to the ecosystem I can understand why this would seem really important at first. It is important to understand – but the actual practical differences between versions from an exam standpoint are fairly minimal. What IS important that you learn the concepts thoroughly AND review the release notes for the latest release to see what has changed.
Good luck!
Hi John,
First off, thanks for creating the site. Trying to absorb the amount of info available is like drinking through a fire hose; its great to have a single specific source.
My questions is in terms of hours, how long would you estimate it takes to get through the entire guide?
I have worked as an Admin for about 12 months with limited to moderate exposure. My exam is scheduled for 12/12/2015. Do I have enough time to study?
Thanks, Scott
It really depends. If you are studying an hour or so per day and are already familiar with most of the material, then that should be enough time. I saw another poster recently that said they spent about 2 months with the material before they took the exam and passed. Good luck!
If I purchase CoD, how many practice exams do I get?
Thanks
1 practice exam with 30 questions at the end of the study guide, several questions within each section
All my quiz are 4 question only is that ok for what I bought or I am not using the correct link ?
You’re using the correct materials – the quizzes vary in length for each section. There is also a final exam.
what is the ideal time suggested for the complete understanding of this book? just taking a worst case scenario : the person without knowing the abc of salesforce.
It depends on a lot of variables (your background, how thoroughly you review each topic, how much time you spend daily, etc.)- without any prior knowledge and no technical background you might be looking at 30-90 days.
The material is designed for the initial admin exam not advanced… It will help but won’t get you all the way there.
John, I just passed the first exam with help from your site! So thanks! What resources might you recommend for the advanced exam?
Hi John,
Is the material covered here enough to pass the advanced administrator exam?
Do you have a mobile app for this website?
No, but you can use a web browser (chrome, safari)
Question John: in relation to the question “Is this site “enough” for me to get certified?” can you clarify whether reading & comprehending the resources marked: MUST is sufficient to pass the exam or whether the resources marked: SHOULD ought to be read/comprehended as well ?
Good question. It is really up to you to understand the materials – so if you don’t fully understand a point, then I would reference the should/could materials. If you feel your understanding is very solid, then you can continue with the material.
