Hi John
I am debating on the following question.
By default, search results are limited to records owned by the logged in user. My answer is True.
If I am wrong then please let me know how is it False?
Can you guide me?
Thanks
False. Search results are limited to records that the user has read access to.
Hi John,
Debating on following question.
By default, search results are limited to records owned by the logged in user. Is this True or False? I think this is True.

Please guide me.
Thank you
Security isn’t usually based on ownership of records, operability is. So, if you own a record ( or are higher up in a hierarchy) you can usually edit (obviously create) share and delete, permissions withstanding. But you can still search for other data that you have permission to view via permission sets, profiles, sharing rules, etc.
John, it seems that System Overview is only available in Setup when you turn on Enable Improved Setup User Interface setting. Without it on I couldn’t find the System Overview anywhere in the Setup menu
Once you click setup, its on the main page (setup, no further navigation) for me with improved setup disabled
Hi John/All,
How to enable or add records to Public Tags in Salesforce?
I was able to Enable Personal Tag and assign Records of different objects to it.
But couldn’t able to see Public Tag anywhere in My Developer ORG setting or anywhere.
As i read above I disabled the Topic and tried but not able to view Public Tag anywhere.
Is this Public Tag now not available in SF anymore?
Yep still out there: https://help.salesforce.com/htviewhelpdoc?id=customize_tag_settings.htm&siteLang=en_US
Customize –> Tags –> Tag Settings
It also looks like Public Tags have been replaced by Topics – https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewSolution?id=000199532&language=en_US
Ah thanks- will update
And updated
Hello all,
I cant seem to locate where to tag records… cant find anything on the top right hand corner.
Am I missing something?
Hello all,
I cant seem to locate where to tag records… cant find anything on the top right hand corner.
Am I missing something?
Edit: Scratch that, I see that I have to enable personal tags from setup.

Here is a good video for this topic..
hope it will help you.

When I switch to lightning I am not getting UI which is shown in trailhead I do get vertical bar but without home button and other keys
Can you post a screenshot?
I will. Thanks. I subscribed and going through all chapters my exam is on 12th March. Thanks for all prompt responses.
Thanks John
I have postponed my exam till next week
Hi John
i am going for my ADM 201 on 23/2.
i got your mail about updates to the site great work as usual.
I haven’t really looked at the lightning experience, but i am going to go through your UI section again.
Do you think i will be ok with that, and if there will be any specific questions on my exams about the use of the lightning experience.
thanks
I would go through the UI section as you stated- I would also do the trailhead on lightning and/or configure it your developer org. It is fairly straightforward to set up, and shouldn’t take you long.
John, at about 1:53 in your video you said that the Quick Access Menu is not dependent on Profiles or permission sets…so when I went out to enable it for myself in my company’s prod environment, I couldn’t find the option to check…..then I saw the other youtube link that you shared (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnO2a3m76o4) which at about 0:22 says that this needs to be enabled at a profile level or via a permission set.
Thank you for creating this awesome site and for the quick responses you provide for questions people have in each topic.
To use the quick access menu (which is set at the user record), you have to have the “Customize Application” permission (which is set via profile or permission set). Hope that clarifies!
correction ….in line in applications and tab in last point
this following line
Otherwise, there is no correlation*(connection) between tab visibility and object-level security.
thank u
Similar wording, same meaning
hi john,
I m not able to view any videos regarding visual force …can you please check whats wrong…it says videos are removed…or can you provide any other correct link i can watch…
thank you.
Tejal.
These links appear to work
hi john,
I really didn’t get what topic :tag is for ? lost at that topic:(
Can u please give me an example with screenshot.
Thanks
Tejal.

Hey John,
I really like the video you created that allowed you to navigate SF and narrate at the same time. This is something that can be helpful for creating training materials. Would you mind letting me know what software you’re using for that? Would it happen to be JING? Thanks!
I use Camtasia – there are several great tools out there though
Hi John, the What is VisualForce? [Must / Medium / Salesforce.com] doesn’t seem to work.
I get the following error the SFDC site: Oops, the page you’re trying to view isn’t here
Appears to be active once again
i AM UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE BELOW FEATURES EVEN AFTER ENABLING OR DISABLING THEM , ANY OTHER SOURCE FOR THESE?
Enable Customization of Chatter User Profile Page
Show Custom Sidebar Components on All Pages
Enable Drag-and-Drop Scheduling on List Views
Enable Separate Loading of Related Lists
Enable Customization of Chatter User Profile Page
-not sure about this one, will have to have a look
Show Custom Sidebar Components on All Pages
-if this is DISABLED, then CUSTOM home page components on sidebar will only be displayed on the home page. A really confusing settings actually, I leave this enabled. If disabled the sidebar will remove custom components when the home tab is not selected…
Enable Drag-and-Drop Scheduling on List Views
-not sure on this one
Enable Separate Loading of Related Lists
-allows the page to load related lists separately- this can allow a partial page load more quickly if you have a lot of related lists. Often enabled in data intensive or orgs with large sections of related info (e.g. long account page)
I think I can easily retain a high level understanding of topics like Buttons and Links. Similar the the brief descriptions you have on the right. But, am I expected to know any of the coding details for the Admin 201 exam?
You don’t need to know the code but should be familiar with what apex and visual force are.
Ok, that I can do. Thanks for your quick response and also for such a useful site. I spent a lot of time looking for books, but this is even better.
Sorry – scrap that!
I am missing (or can’t seem to find) the User Interface option under Setup?
Hi John,
How to enable public tags? Under Setup| Customize| tag settings – Enable Personal tags checkbox is available , however; Enable Public tags is not available?
Where to check for this option?
Thanks.
From what i see in docs this should be there- https://help.salesforce.com/htviewhelpdoc?err=1&id=customize_tag_settings.htm&siteLang=en_US
I would raise a case with SFDC to see why it is not present…
Needs editing:
unless user adds using by customizing tab
…should read:
unless user adds by using customizing tab
Thank you! Updated.
In the ‘Describe the basic capabilities of the Salesforce Console.’ section http://www.salesforce.com/customer-resources/releases/winter15/release-training.jsp is also working and has Communities, Chatter and Mobile included.
Make sense to use this newer link? Thanks.
oeps, disregard my remark. The part you’re referring to “Salesforce Console for Sales” is not included in the newer URL link 😉
I was trying to check out the Tags feature, but I’m unable to turn on public tags. I understand that Public Tags aren’t there if Topics is turned on, so I tried unclicking “Enable Topics” in Setup/Build/Customize/Topics/Topics for Objects, but that doesn’t seem to have made a difference (in fact I still see the “Click to add topics” on the object bar, although it doesn’t do anything). So is it the case that Public Tags are simply no longer available?
Check the reports tab
If you click into a report, do you see “add a tag” under “help for this page” in the top right?
(after enabling public tags for reports)
Seems like a lot of content dedicated to this section on UI, given that this is only 1% of the admin cert exam. John, would you agree that UI is really only 1% of the exam as noted in the Salesforce Study Guide? Or is it common to see more than a few questions covering these topics in the admin cert exam?
I make be taking a more liberal definition of what UI constitutes and including content that may be covered in other sections of the SFDC study guide. I do believe that you should have a strong understanding of the content covered in this section, although I can’t attest to the exact % of the exam to which it pertains.
Maybe include something on Topics with Tags overview? Didn’t the public tags migrate into Topics in Spring ’14?
I will add this to the list of site updates
Hi,
In the KEY FACTS column for the text: “When an organization wants to replace standard page layout functionality with a VisualForce page, the standard button (e.g. New, Edit, etc.) must be overridden with a custom button that invokes the VisualForce page.” Is “custom button” technically correct? It looks more like we override a property of the existing standard button.
You do either actually – good point, will update.
Hi John,
I have seen mini page layouts concept somewhere, but not sure about them. What are those for? Are they covered anywhere in the tutorial? Thanks!
Mini page layouts are referenced in console configuration – they aren’t cover in depth in this guide but would be something you would need to know for service cloud certification, for example.
There’s a typo in the Visualforce key facts. It says “that what” rather than “than what.”
Thanks, updated.
