Feed Tracking
When feed tracking is enabled for an object, each time one or more tracked fields is updated, a Chatter post is automatically generated.
Example
Two fields on the account have been selected with Chatter feed tracking: Account Name and Account Owner.
Whenever an account owner or name is changed, a Chatter post is generated on the corresponding account record:
Feed tracking is enabled by default for some standard objects. It can be enabled on most standard objects, as well as custom objects.
Configuring Feed Tracking
Navigate to Setup –> Customize –> Chatter –> Feed Tracking. Select object and fields as needed.
Chatter Security
Users can view each other’s Chatter feeds and profiles. However, when a user posts to a record, other users must be able to view the record in order to see the post.
Example
I’ve created a new lead, and created a Chatter post on that lead record:
James does not have access to view the lead record I created. When James views my Chatter profile, he will not see posts related to the lead record:
hi john,
Have a question that , if obj OWD is private,And owner(for that record) share the record of that obj to chatter post…
So can it be visible for all or only upper peer in hierarchy will be able to see that record related post.?
Does the security come in to picture with chatter feed…?
and can the person who don’t have record visibility can track that feed?
Tejal.
To see the chatter feed, you need to be able to view the record (regardless of how view is granted)
i m tottaly new to the chatter …just want idea..can i disable chatter any time.?, and if yes, then how… not finding way…can you please guide me Johan…
Tejal.
Yes you can – disable global search and it will turn off chatter. I also understand there may be a way to disable chatter separately as well in the new release.
What if you were to @mention James. Would that give him the ability to see the record?
No. And the poster of the message would get a warning telling them that James would not see the post.
will this be automatically set that when i create lead or oppurtutnity anybody will not see this on post or i have set it manually
Not sure I understand the question – can you clarify?
John, the images are not being displayed for this page
Hi Alana, they are displaying no problem for me. Can you try clearing your cache?
Jon,
Navigate to Setup –> Customize –> Feed Tracking needs to be updated to Navigate to Setup –> Customize –> Chatter –> Feed Tracking.
Love this site and how open you are to feedback and questions! Wish I had used it on my first attempt at passing ADM 201 Cert.
Thanks!
Eileen
thank you, updated!
Hi John,
I suggest mentioning that Feed Tracking can be enabled by going to:
Setup>Customize>Chatter>Feed Tracking and then customizing per object.
Done, thanks Jon.
