Typo error:
‘The Sales Operations team would like a method to communicate within their group and other select users within the company’. I think you mean ‘and other sales users within the company’
Thanks for this amazing guide.
Hi John, just a clarification on question 1: Currently, a user can email a post via link “https://na3.salesforce.com/0D55000003LP03I” (although the viewer must be a User) just as you can share a Chatter file via link (I don’t think you need to be a User)
In that case that would be a feature of email, not of Chatter (as chatter is not initiating the email). But yes possible
Question 2 needs a better wording:
“…when she went back to view the post later in the day she could not find it in her feed…”
The correct answer doesn’t add any additional information since it says pretty much the same as above, which is redundant:
“Mary can no longer view the opportunity record where the Chatter post was created.”
While the other answers might not be correct, at least they gave an idea about actions that took place and therefore resulting that Mary can’t see it anymore.
Thanks
The idea with the question is that you understand the linkage between record security and feed visibility; the answer is a different statement (record security) versus the question (feed visibility)
Also, in question 2 are you suggesting that Jim had manually shared the opportunity with Mary? Otherwise, I’m not following how that record access would have changed?
All sorts of reasons it could have changed (which is not specified in the question): Jim could have revoked sharing, an admin could have changed a sharing rule, etc. The idea of the question was to get you thinking about a scenario like that if you were an admin a company where something like this occurred and your job would be to find out why.
John in the information provided regarding groups, it reflects;
…private groups require permission to join but can be seen by all users.
Therefore, question 3 Chatter Private would not be applicable. Salesforce information regarding private groups reflects;
Private: Only group members can see and add posts, comments, and files.
Am I missing something?
Other users could see that a private Chatter group existed- but they couldn’t see the content within the group. Therefore the communication itself would still be private to the group. Make sense?
hi john,
Didn’t get the 2nd Question’s answer? 🙁
Do you mean marry just didn’t check it at first , then after some time when she go back and try to find , it’s not available to her or she don’t have access to that opportunity and that’s why she is not able to see that record?
Thanks .
Tejal.
Meaning she had access to the opp and saw the post, then lost access to the opp therefore couldn’t see the post afterwards
Hi John – question 2’s answer has a minor typo – “which in turned removed Mary’s ability” should be “in turn”.
Loving your site so far, thanks for putting this together.
Thanks, updated
Thanks, John. I had never thought about what you mentioned in the clarification, so thanks!
Hi John, Question 1 confused me. If Mary could verify with Jim that his post was still listed on the opportunity record, then how could she not have access to that opportunity record?
Very good point Robert. I’ve reworded this question and clarified the issue Rena pointed out above as well.
Please clarify what you mean by “However, you can post either to a group or a record, not both.”
Hi Rena – thanks for asking for clarification here. This statement needed to be updated, as this is now possible. Apologies, I missed this in the site update.
The link tree only has four items under Chatter:
Global Search & Sidebar Search
Feed Tracking & Security
Chatter: Quiz
Chatter: Feedback
Compared to all the sections available if I click on the main Chatter page, this list seems incomplete. Someone may not notice the other sections.

I’m looking at tweaking the site navigation – thanks for the heads up.
